Help for law enforcement training, service required
Starting in fiscal year 2025, this bill would let the Attorney General give competitive grants to help pay for law enforcement training. Local agencies would use the funds to send officers or recruits to college-based or agency-run training programs. To get this help, you would agree to work full time as an officer for at least 4 years within 8 years after finishing training, and provide proof of employment from your agency. Your service would need to be at a local agency within 7 miles of a home you have lived in for 5 years, or within 20 miles if your county has fewer than 150,000 people. If you do not complete the service, you would usually repay the benefits you received unless regulations list an extenuating circumstance that applies. The Attorney General would also report each year to Congress on grant use and retention.
