The bill would broaden the Act's definitions to cover perception and association, define gender identity and sexual orientation, and extend anti-intimidation protections to cover bias based on those traits.
Show full summary
- LGBTQ people and their families: Would gain clear federal protection when renting, buying, or living in housing. It makes discrimination or intimidation based on orientation or identity explicitly unlawful.
- People associated with protected individuals: Would be protected when bias targets someone because of who they live with or spend time with, because the bill covers associational discrimination.
- Housing providers and tenants facing harassment: Would see the statute's existing anti-discrimination and anti-intimidation rules applied to sexual orientation and gender identity, with definitions anchored in the new section 802.

Clear fair housing rights for LGBTQ people
This bill would add sexual orientation and gender identity to fair housing protections. It would bar discrimination and intimidation in renting, buying, lending, and other housing services based on these traits. It would define these terms and say you are protected if a landlord acts on a wrong belief about you, or because of someone you are with. Tenants, applicants, and homebuyers would have clearer rules and stronger grounds to file a complaint. Housing providers would face greater risk if they discriminate.
