- Federal and State law enforcement would gain a chemical-analysis method and a portable field kit to verify seafood origin and support enforcement against IUU fishing.
- NOAA and the Under Secretary for Standards and Technology would jointly develop the methodology and run pilot studies on red snapper and on bigeye, yellowfin, and bluefin tuna, in consultation with Customs and Border Protection and the Coast Guard.
- Within 2 years of enactment the Under Secretary would report to Congress with the methodology, a plan to operationalize it, and explanations if any parts are impractical or need alternative approaches.
