Plan to boost jobs in border towns
If passed, the Department of Commerce would write a national plan to grow jobs in border towns near land ports of entry (within 15 miles). The plan would target jobs in logistics, international trade, manufacturing, transportation, and agriculture. It would also seek to strengthen U.S. manufacturing, cut export and import costs, and expand workforce training and vocational programs. The plan must review incentives, including possible tax incentives, and recommend needed law or rule changes. Commerce would coordinate with Housing, Agriculture, and Transportation on housing, infrastructure, highways, and rail, and send Congress a report within one year after enactment.
