Show full summary
- Land managers and federal agencies will operate more closely. The Natural Resources Conservation Service must consider Forest Service management plans and work with the Forest Service on forestry science using the best available science.
- Communities and landscapes hit by fire gain a clear recovery focus. The program now includes recovering from wildfires and adds post-wildfire impacts to the wildfire risk elements that guide projects.
- State planners and protected places face tighter alignment and limits. Actions funded must link to State forest action plans or similar priority plans and must follow the Forest Service Roadless Area Conservation rule and the specified parts of federal regulations; the program period is extended through 2031.

Bill Overview
Analyzed Economic Effects
3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.
More wildfire and soil projects for landowners
This bill would add wildfire recovery and soil and water improvement as program goals. If you are an eligible landowner, farmer, rancher, or community partner, you could propose projects for these goals. NRCS would also need to consider Forest Service plans and work with the Forest Service using the best available science. All projects would still have to meet the program’s existing rules.
Program extended through 2031 for applicants
This bill would extend the program’s timeframe through 2031. Eligible landowners and project sponsors could apply under the extended timeline. The change would take effect upon enactment.
New limits for projects near roadless areas
If enacted, program projects would need to be consistent with the Forest Service roadless-area rule and related rules. Reviews would also weigh post-wildfire impacts, not just wildfire risk. Actions would need to match your State forest action plan or a similar priority plan. If your project is in or near a roadless area, you could face limits or added planning steps.
