Summary
Remove Francis G. Newlands' name from the Chevy Chase Circle memorial fountain. The bill would direct the Secretary of the Interior to remove a brass plaque bearing "Senator Francis G. Newlands", the stone tablet inscribed "Francis Griffith Newlands" and related wording on the south face of the fountain, and the "Newlands" carving from the coping stones. It would offer removed items to Newlands' descendants for 60 days and if unclaimed the National Park Service would keep them as federal property and accession them into the Rock Creek Park museum collection.

Remove Newlands name from DC fountain
If enacted, the Interior Secretary would remove or hide Francis G. Newlands’s name from the memorial fountain at Chevy Chase Circle (Connecticut Ave and Western Ave NW) in Washington, DC. The Secretary would remove a brass plaque reading "Senator Francis G. Newlands," a stone tablet on the south face with "Francis Griffith Newlands" and its inscription, and the "Newlands" carving on the coping stones (removed or permanently concealed). Removed items would be offered to Newlands’s descendants for 60 days. If not claimed in 60 days, the National Park Service would keep them as federal property and add them to the Rock Creek Park museum collection. This would apply only to that fountain and would take effect upon enactment.
