Post-Disaster Reforestation and Restoration Act

Replant federal and tribal lands after disasters

If enacted, the government would create a program to replant and restore federal and tribal lands after wildfires, storms, and other unplanned damage. The Interior Department would lead it with other land agencies. The Secretary would identify lands needing help within 1 year and then every year. Each year the Secretary would set a list of priority projects. Work would be done through competitive grants, contracts (including Tribal self-determination contracts), and cooperative agreements. The program would also fund seed and seedling supplies for this work. Agencies would reach out to Tribes, States, territories, local governments, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian organizations, colleges, nearby federal land managers, and other stakeholders. The Secretary would report to Congress within 2 years and then each year on needs, progress, and gaps. This authority would end 7 years after enactment.
