Sponsored By: Representative Garbarino, Andrew R. [R-NY-2]

In Committee

Summary

Extends the National Flood Insurance Program's financing authority and program authorization through September 30, 2026. It replaces the date "September 30, 2023" with "September 30, 2026" in 42 U.S.C. 4016(a) and 42 U.S.C. 4026 and makes those changes retroactive to January 30, 2026 if enacted after that date. The act preserves the NFIP's existing rules and funding levels and does not make other substantive program changes.

Flood insurance program extended to 2026

This bill would extend the National Flood Insurance Program's financing authority and program expiration to September 30, 2026. If enacted after January 30, 2026, the extension would take effect as if enacted on January 30, 2026. Homeowners, renters, small businesses, and lenders in flood-prone areas would keep access to NFIP insurance until that date. The bill would not change who qualifies for coverage or how benefits are calculated.
