Main Street Parity Act

Sponsored By: Representative Williams, Roger [R-TX-25]

Passed House

Summary

Narrows eligibility for SBA loans for plant acquisition and expansion. The Main Street Parity Act amends the Small Business Investment Act of 1958 by removing clauses (ii) and (iii) from Section 502(3)(C), inserting the word "or" at the end of clause (i), and redesignating clause (iv) as clause (ii). It also updates the cross-reference in Section 502(3)(B)(ii) to point to the streamlined clause. The change tightens and simplifies the criteria that determine which projects can get loans to buy, build, convert, or expand plants.

Tighter rules for small-business property loans

This bill would narrow who can qualify for loans used to buy, build, convert, or expand a business facility. It would remove two qualifying tests in the law and leave fewer paths to approval. It would redesignate the remaining clauses and update cross-references so only clause (i) is cited. Some small businesses would lose eligibility. The change would take effect upon enactment.
