To amend the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to prevent duplicate enrollments in Exchanges.
Sponsored By: Representative Burchett, Tim [R-TN-2]
Introduced
Summary
Prevent duplicate premium tax credit payments. The bill would add subsection (j) to Section 1411 of the Affordable Care Act and would require the Secretary, within 60 days of that subsection's enactment, to create a process in the Exchange program that matches Social Security numbers across all Exchanges to identify identical SSNs for the same coverage period. When identical Social Security numbers are found the Secretary would take steps to prevent duplicative advance payments of premium tax credits under Section 1412.

Tighter checks on health insurance subsidies
If enacted, HHS would require Exchanges to check the Social Security number (SSN) you give when applying for individual-market coverage. The Secretary would have to start this check within 60 days after enactment. If your SSN matches someone already enrolled for the same coverage period, HHS would act to stop duplicate advance payments of premium tax credits. This change would not change who is eligible or how large the tax credit is; it aims to prevent duplicate or improper payments.
