New SNAP data sharing rules

If enacted, this would require State SNAP agencies to give recipient-level data and case files to the U.S. Department of Agriculture when requested. The Secretary would set the form, timing, and secure electronic method for transfers and would generally require data within 30 days, or sooner for urgent audits or investigations. If a State did not comply, the bill would allow withholding or suspension of Federal administrative funds. The Secretary would have to keep the data under federal privacy and security laws, including the Privacy Act of 1974, but could share the data with Federal or State law enforcement for enforcing SNAP or other laws.
