HR6529119th Congress

Protecting Families from AI Data Center Energy Costs Act

Sponsored By: Representative Landsman, Greg [D-OH-1]

Introduced

Summary

Protect residential and small commercial electricity customers from cost increases tied to large AI data centers. This bill would direct the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to hold a commissioner-led technical conference within 90 days that includes the Department of Energy, utilities, transmission providers, state regulators, ratepayer advocates, and large electricity users such as data centers used for artificial intelligence. FERC would then have 180 days after the conference to send recommendations and best practices to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. *Would not authorize funding and would have no direct cost to the federal budget.*
