This bill would require the Comptroller General of the United States to study whether establishing a federal uniform residential building code could make housing cheaper, faster, and higher quality. The report, due within one year of enactment, must examine whether a national code could reduce local government approval time, lower residential construction costs, and increase the quality and affordability of available housing.
