25-year immigration ban for Somalis
If enacted, the bill would bar issuing any U.S. visa or granting any immigration status to nationals of Somalia for 25 years after enactment. The ban would not apply to people lawfully admitted before enactment or to lawful permanent residents. Travelers holding valid A-1, A-2, C-2, C-3, G-1, G-2, G-3, or G-4 visas would also be excluded. Exceptions beyond those would be allowed only by the Secretary of State, in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security. The bill would also make Somali citizens and nationals ineligible for withholding of removal in deportation proceedings.
