Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Electronic signatures for plan filings

If enacted, this bill would let the Treasury, Labor, and PBGC allow returns and ERISA reports to be signed electronically. It would apply to returns under Internal Revenue Code section 6058 and reports under ERISA sections 104 and 4065, and to any information filed with them. The bill would treat a plan as complying if it signs in good faith until agencies finish the rule changes. The amendments would apply to plan years ending on or after the date of enactment.

Later filing deadlines for retirement plans

If enacted, this bill would change when some retirement plan reports and participant notices are due. It would replace the old 210-day and 6-month rules with a new due date: 15 days after the end of the ninth calendar month after the plan year ends. The Secretary could set a later deadline for plans, sponsors, administrators, participants, beneficiaries, or others hit by a disaster, fire, or an action described in section 7508A(b) of the Internal Revenue Code. The change would apply to plan years ending on or after the date of enactment.
