More oversight of colleges for identity fraud
This bill would direct the Secretary of Education to identify colleges that, on or after October 1, 2026, gave Title IV federal aid to students whose FAFSA showed a reasonable suspicion of identity fraud. The Secretary would prioritize program reviews, audits, and investigations of those colleges. A college would not be identified if it verified each student's identity before disbursement by in-person or live, synchronous audiovisual checks, notified the Secretary, and kept a record. Identification alone would not be a finding that a college failed to meet Title IV requirements.
