Summary

Improve procurement and stockpiling of Defense Production Act long-lead items. This bill would require the Comptroller General to carry out a one-year study of how DPA agencies procure and stockpile long-lead components and to offer legislative fixes based on the findings.

  • Federal DPA agencies would be examined on current practices for buying and storing long-lead items. The study must identify ways agencies can coordinate procurement and stockpiling.
  • Congress would get a GAO report with legislative recommendations, including possible amendments to the Defense Production Act, sent to the House Committee on Financial Services and the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
  • The bill also makes a technical correction to the Defense Production Act's statutory citation to fix a drafting error.
