Summary
Restore and prioritize front-line Social Security staffing. This bill would require the Commissioner of Social Security to ensure, within 6 months of enactment, that total full-time staff equal or exceed the number employed on January 19, 2025. Seventy-five percent of the hires needed to reach that level must fill front-line roles in field offices, call centers, program service centers, payment processing, regional offices, or disability claims and adjudication. The remaining 25 percent must provide managerial or administrative support.

Restore Social Security frontline staff
This bill would require the Commissioner of Social Security to restore full-time staff. Not later than six months after enactment, staff must be at least the number employed on January 19, 2025. Seventy-five percent of the hires to reach that number would work in frontline jobs like field offices, phone centers, payment processing, or disability claims work. The other 25 percent would be managerial or administrative support for those frontline staff. The bill does not specify funding, penalties, or a sunset date. If enacted, this would likely improve access to benefits and speed payments and disability decisions.
