- Medicare beneficiaries and callers would get a GAO-backed analysis of call wait times and overall satisfaction. That analysis would include recommendations aimed at improving the phone service.
- The Secretary of Health and Human Services and 1-800-MEDICARE contractors would be reviewed for staffing competency and levels and for contractor performance. The report must describe any actions they took in response to prior GAO recommendations.
- Congress would receive a single, comprehensive assessment covering historical changes in service areas, contractor performance, and concrete recommendations for improving the helpline.
