New nonprofit reporting on resettlement
This bill would require tax-exempt organizations that file returns under the tax code to give the Treasury Secretary aggregated, non-identifying data about noncitizens they help resettle or relocate. They would report the total number helped in the taxable year, how many were helped to enroll or participate in federal benefit programs, any cash or in-kind assistance received, and whether help was direct or indirect. Organizations could not be required to provide information that would identify a particular person. The reporting rule would apply for taxable years beginning after December 31, 2026. The Treasury Secretary would send Congress an aggregate statistical report by December 31, 2028, and each year after that.
