Tighter lobbying rules for former officials
If enacted, this would lengthen post-government lobbying bans for covered senior executive branch officials. Rules that now bar certain contacts "within 1 year after termination" or "within 2 years after termination" would instead say "within 5 years after termination." The bill would also bar for life a covered official from representing, advising, or aiding a foreign government or any entity owned, controlled, or influenced by a foreign government. These changes would apply only to people who were subject to the listed parts of 18 U.S.C. § 207 and who leave those positions on or after the date this bill is enacted.
