Summary
Stronger heat-resistant hazardous-materials placards. This bill would require the Transportation Secretary to issue regulations within one year ensuring the placards described in 49 C.F.R. 172.519 can withstand heat in excess of 180 degrees. New heat rules for placard makers
This bill would require the Secretary of Transportation to issue rules within one year after enactment. The rules would require placards covered by 49 CFR 172.519 to withstand heat in excess of 180 degrees. The rule would apply to placard makers, shippers, and carriers. The Secretary could raise the heat threshold later if the National Transportation Safety Board recommends it. Businesses that make or use placards would likely face costs to meet the new standard.
