- Service members and reservists: Eligible servicemembers who performed active service, are enrolled in TRICARE, and have a PTSD diagnosis could elect stellate ganglion block after a qualified provider explains risks and benefits.
- Health system and providers: The Department of Defense could deliver SGB at its medical facilities or via qualified providers in DoD-administered TRICARE programs. The VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guideline for PTSD must be updated to include SGB clinical indicators and contraindications within 180 days.
- Congressional oversight: The Secretary must notify the congressional defense committees when the guideline update is completed.

More PTSD treatment through TRICARE
If enacted, you would be able to get stellate ganglion block (SGB) through TRICARE if you performed active service (including reserves), are enrolled in TRICARE under chapter 55, and have a PTSD diagnosis. You would need to elect SGB after a qualified health care provider informs you of the risks and benefits. The Department of Defense would be able to provide SGB at a DoD medical facility or through TRICARE-participating providers. This requirement would start 180 days after enactment.
PTSD guideline would add stellate ganglion block
If enacted, the Department of Defense would update the VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guideline for PTSD within 180 days to list stellate ganglion block (SGB) as a therapy option and to describe clinical indicators and contraindications. After finishing the update, the Secretary would notify the congressional defense committees.
