Later Medicare price talks for some drugs

If enacted, this bill would change how Medicare's Drug Price Negotiation Program treats some peptide drugs. It would use an 11-year negotiation reference period instead of the usual 7 years for products called "engineered cyclic peptides." The bill would define those peptides with six rules: mainly made of amino acids, at least one cyclic bond, no more than 40 amino acids, found by genetically encoded library screening, not naturally derived, and taken by mouth, inhaled, or self-administered. These changes would apply to drug lists published under section 1192(a) on or after the bill's enactment date. If enacted, manufacturers of qualifying products would get a later start before negotiated price limits would apply, and patients and payers would face later price negotiations for those products.
