More granular racial and ethnic student data would be required on state report cards to match decennial Census categories. The bill expands Asian American and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander classifications into many specific subgroups so educators and communities can spot disparities and target support.
Show full summary
- Students and families: Students from Asian American and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander backgrounds would be reported in detailed subgroups such as Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Samoan, Tongan, and Marshallese so outcomes for those communities are clearer.
- State education agencies: Annual State report cards and statewide accountability systems would have to adopt the expanded subgroup lists. The requirement takes effect 18 months after enactment.

Expanded Asian and Pacific Islander reporting
This bill would require states and local schools to report student performance using more detailed Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander subgroups. It lists many specific groups such as Chinese, Asian Indian, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Pakistani, Hmong, Cambodian, Burmese, Bangladeshi, Nepalese, and others. It also lists Native Hawaiian, Samoan, Chamorro, Tongan, iTaukei, Marshallese, and, to the greatest extent practicable, additional groups like Chuukese and Palauan. The bill would require statewide accountability systems to use these subgroup labels. These changes would take effect 18 months after enactment.
