Higher pay for holiday work
This bill would require employers covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act to pay at least 1.5 times your regular rate for hours you work on a "legal public holiday" (the Federal holidays listed in 5 U.S.C. 6103(a)). The holiday premium would not count toward overtime pay calculations. If unpaid, legal public holiday compensation would be recoverable like unpaid overtime under FLSA and the Portal-to-Portal Act. The changes would take effect upon enactment and would not override any State or local law that requires a higher holiday rate.
