Fuel discounts for military patrons
If enacted, eligible patrons (people allowed by federal law to buy fuel at exchange stores) would get a per‑gallon discount when fueling vehicles at exchange stations. The base discount would be at least the federal excise tax per gallon but not less than 18.4¢ for gasoline and 24.4¢ for diesel. The Secretary of Defense could add another per‑gallon discount to offset State or local taxes. The discount would be applied at the pump to the maximum extent practicable, and the Secretary would update rules to prevent fraud, resale, or commercial use. The Secretary would report to the Armed Services Committees within 180 days of program start and annually after that. The authority to provide these discounts would end on September 30, 2029.
