- Taiwan: Would require the U.S. IMF Governor to vigorously support Taiwan's admission to the extent Taiwan requests and to back Taiwan's participation in Article IV surveillance of its economy.
- Taiwan nationals and technical ties: Would press for employment opportunities for Taiwan nationals at the IMF and for Taiwan to get appropriate IMF technical assistance and training.
- U.S. oversight and timing: Gives the Treasury Secretary authority to waive certain requirements for up to 1 year at a time with a report to Congress, requires Treasury to describe annual efforts in testimony for the next 7 years, and sunsets on IMF approval or after 10 years.

U.S. would back Taiwan at the IMF
If enacted, the U.S. Governor at the IMF would use the U.S. voice and vote to support Taiwan’s membership, if Taiwan seeks it. It would also back Taiwan’s regular IMF economic reviews, hiring of Taiwan nationals, and access to IMF training and technical help. It would state U.S. policy not to discourage Taiwan from seeking membership. The Treasury Secretary could waive these requirements for up to one year at a time, but only if reporting to Congress that a waiver would help Taiwan’s meaningful participation. These directives would start upon enactment and end on the earlier of IMF approval of Taiwan’s admission or 10 years after enactment.
