Promoting Authenticity with Influencer Disclaimers Act

Paid political influencer disclosure rule

If enacted, this bill would require political committees to disclose when they pay someone to post political content online. The post or audio would have to say "has been paid for by [committee]" in a clear, readable way; text/graphic must be legible and audio must be spoken clearly. The committee must notify the person getting the payment about the disclosure rule when the payment is made. The rule would not apply to a committee's own website and would usually not apply to a paid employee's personal social page if the only cost is staff time, but the employee exemption would not apply if posting on their own page is the employee's principal duty. The rule would take effect for communications made on or after January 1, 2027, even if the Federal Election Commission has not finished its regulations.
