Support for military families with limb loss
This bill would establish the Military Family Limb Loss and Limb Difference Support Program starting in fiscal year 2028. The Program would give covered beneficiaries peer mentorship, family support, education about limb care, community reintegration help, coordination of nonclinical resources, outreach, and other related activities. Covered beneficiaries would be people with limb loss or limb difference who are dependents of a member or retired member of the Armed Forces, or who are otherwise eligible for health care under chapter 55 of title 10, as the Secretary of Defense decides. The Secretary would be able to contract or enter cooperative agreements with organizations experienced in serving limb loss populations. Not later than 180 days after enactment, the Secretary would submit an implementation plan to the House and Senate Armed Services Committees. The Secretary would also report one year after the Program starts and annually for three years, listing who was served, services and partnerships, gaps in coverage, and recommended actions.
