  • Servicemembers and families: Sets a formal process so automatic Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance and Veterans' Group Life Insurance amounts are reassessed and may be increased within existing administrative increments to better track inflation.
  • VA and Congress: Requires an initial review on January 1, 2026 and repeats every five years. The Secretary must use the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers and compute a benchmark equal to $500,000 times the average five-year CPI change, then report findings to the House and Senate Veterans' Affairs committees.

Regular SGLI and VGLI review

The law requires the VA to run a review on January 1, 2026, and every five years after. For each review the VA compares the current automatic maximum to a benchmark. The benchmark is $500,000 multiplied by the five‑year average percent change in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers. The VA must send the review results to the House and Senate Committees on Veterans' Affairs. The findings can guide future coverage increases under the VA's existing administrative incremental rules. The law does not itself raise insurance coverage.
