Pharmacy access for methadone patients
If enacted, a new pathway would let qualified prescribers write methadone for opioid use disorder so you could pick it up at a pharmacy. Practitioners would need proper state licensure and certain addiction board certifications or be approved by the Secretary. Prescriptions would have to be sent electronically and the drug limited to a liquid or dispersible tablet. Pharmacies would not need a separate registration to fill these prescriptions. Maintenance or detox could be provided by telemedicine. Practitioners would have to document informed consent that explains how privacy rules differ from clinic-based treatment. If your State asks, the Attorney General would stop and revoke registrations in that State. All rules would take effect 180 days after enactment.
