Sponsored By: Representative Murphy, Gregory F. [R-NC-3]

Introduced

Summary

Would designate March as Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism Awareness Month to raise public awareness of these common, preventable blood clot conditions. The resolution explains DVT is a clot in deep veins and a PE is a clot that travels to the lung and can be fatal. It says DVT and PE affect as many as 900,000 people each year and cause an estimated 60,000 to 100,000 deaths annually, with one in four PE deaths occurring without warning. It highlights higher risk for cancer patients and for pregnancy through three months postpartum and notes up to $10 billion in additional medical costs each year.
