HRES1213119th Congress

Supporting the recognition of April 2026 as "National County Government Month" to honor the county government workforce, educate residents about local programs and services, and celebrate the county government role in the intergovernmental partnership.

Sponsored By: Representative Olszewski, Johnny [D-MD-2]

Introduced

Summary

National County Government Month would be designated for April 2026 to recognize county governments and boost public awareness of their local services. The resolution notes there are 3,069 counties, parishes, and boroughs and about 3.6 million county public servants who run public safety, roads and bridges, health care, economic development, and social services. It highlights that counties support roughly 70 percent of local public health departments and invest about $130 billion a year in community health and hospitals. The measure urges counties to proclaim the month and asks Members of Congress to engage with their communities to promote the observance.
