This bill would issue an official apology and acknowledgment of government mistreatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people who served in the uniformed services, the Foreign Service, and the federal civil service. It would condemn historic anti-LGBT policies from the Lavender Scare through Don't Ask, Don't Tell and recent actions affecting transgender service members, apologize on behalf of the United States to affected service members, veterans, federal employees and their families, reaffirm a commitment to equal respect and fairness, and state it would not authorize legal claims or compensation.
