House could sue over Iran hostilities
This resolution would direct the Speaker to start or join one or more federal lawsuits on behalf of the House. The lawsuits would seek relief for alleged failures by the President or other executive officials to act consistently with their constitutional duties about hostilities the President reported on March 2, 2026 under the War Powers Resolution. The actions would address the War Powers rule to end hostilities that persist past 60 days without congressional authorization and H. Con. Res. 86 directing removal of U.S. forces from hostilities against the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Speaker would have to notify the House when a case is filed or when the House intervenes. The House Office of General Counsel, at the Speaker's direction, would represent the House and could hire outside counsel and other experts.
