50th anniversary of women’s admission to the U.S. service academies. This resolution would celebrate that milestone and honor the pioneering Class of 1980. It notes President Gerald R. Ford signed Public Law 94-106 on October 7, 1975, and that women reported for duty in summer 1976. It records the first female entrants: 119 at West Point, 81 at the Naval Academy, 157 at the Air Force Academy, and 38 at the Coast Guard Academy. It recognizes the challenges they faced, their role in opening doors for tens of thousands of women since, and urges the academies to preserve and share this history.
