Summary
This bill would award a Congressional Gold Medal to Edward J. Dwight, Jr., the first African American astronaut candidate, recognizing his historic service, artistic contributions, and role in Black history. The Secretary of the Treasury would design and strike the gold medal and could strike and sell bronze duplicates at prices sufficient to cover United States Mint costs like labor and materials. Proceeds from duplicate sales would be deposited into the United States Mint Public Enterprise Fund. The bill also includes findings that recount Dwight’s life, military and astronaut training, sculpting career, honors, and 2024 spaceflight at age 90.
