Airbus Flight Manuals Busted for Wrong Tire Sizes by FAA

Published Date: 2/11/2025

Proposed Rule

Summary

The FAA wants all Airbus A321 planes to update their flight manuals because the main landing gear tire width was recorded wrong, which could affect how the plane performs. This fix follows rules from European safety experts and helps keep flights safe. Airlines will need to make these changes soon, but it’s a smart move to avoid bigger problems later.

Airbus A321 Flight Manual Fix Required

The FAA proposes that operators of Airbus SAS Model A321 airplanes listed in the rule (A321-111, -112, -131, -211, -212, -213, -231, -232, -251N, -252N, -253N, -271N, -272N, -251NX, -252NX, -253NX, -271NX, and -272NX) must revise the airplane flight manual (AFM). The AFM revision must incorporate a complementary performance data file (CPDF) update because an erroneous main landing gear (MLG) tire width value was identified, and the update is specified in a European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) document proposed for incorporation by reference.
