FAA Mandates Fixes for Bombardier Plane Stabilizers

Published Date: 7/2/2025

Proposed Rule

Summary

If you fly a Bombardier BD-100-1A10, listen up! The FAA wants to make sure some important parts in your plane’s stabilizer are the right ones and not reused by mistake. They’re asking for checks and possible replacements soon to keep everyone safe and sound in the skies.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 3 costs, 0 mixed.

Replace improperly reused HSTAs

For Bombardier BD-100-1A10 airplanes, the FAA would require replacement of an HSTA if it was reinstalled when it should have been replaced during a required overhaul. That means affected airplanes would need the HSTA removed and a compliant part installed.

Check stabilizer actuator serials

If you operate a Bombardier BD-100-1A10 airplane, the FAA would require verification of the horizontal stabilizer trim actuator (HSTA) serial number. The check is to confirm parts that were supposed to be replaced during an overhaul were not reinstalled.

Ban installation of affected parts

The proposal would prohibit installing affected HSTA parts on Bombardier BD-100-1A10 airplanes under the conditions specified by the FAA. Mechanics and operators would be barred from reinstalling parts the AD identifies as unsafe.
