Dirty Fluid Menaces Airbus Controls: FAA Demands Swift Fixes

Published Date: 7/10/2025

Rule

Summary

If you fly or work with Airbus A350-941 and -1041 planes, listen up! The FAA found a problem where hydraulic fluid can mess up important flight controls, so they’re making sure affected parts get replaced and certain swaps are banned. This keeps flights safe and sound, with rules kicking in soon to prevent any control troubles.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 3 costs, 0 mixed.

Required replacement of elevator FCRMs

If you operate Airbus A350-941 or A350-1041 airplanes, the FAA requires replacing any affected elevator Flight Control Remote Module (FCRM) after reports that hydraulic fluid contaminated an electronic card and caused loss of an outboard aileron. This replacement requirement applies to all affected airplanes of those models.

Prohibition on swapping FCRM types

For Airbus A350-941 and A350-1041 airplanes, the AD prohibits installing aileron or spoiler FCRMs in place of elevator or rudder FCRMs. Maintenance teams must not substitute those FCRM types for elevator or rudder positions.

Limits on FCRM installation conditions

The AD limits installation of Flight Control Remote Modules (FCRMs) on Airbus A350-941 and A350-1041 airplanes under certain conditions to address the unsafe condition from hydraulic fluid contamination. Operators must follow the installation limits specified in the AD.
