$62.5M cleanup of two uranium sites

The Consent Decree requires United Nuclear Corporation and General Electric to complete an EPA-selected cleanup of two uranium-contaminated Superfund sites in New Mexico (the Northeast Church Rock Mine Site and the United Nuclear Corporation Mill Site) that will cost an estimated $62.5 million. The cleanup mainly involves excavating wastes at the NECR Mine Site and moving about 96% of those wastes to the UNC Mill Site for placement in an engineered repository to protect people and the environment.

Payment of unreimbursed response costs

The Consent Decree provides for payment of unreimbursed response costs incurred or to be incurred by the United States and the Navajo Nation related to the two sites. The settling defendants agree to make these payments as part of the agreement lodged on August 11, 2025.
