Proposed Rule

Summary

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reviewed the Northern California-Southern Oregon fisher population and decided it doesn’t need to be listed as endangered or threatened right now. This means no new protections or big changes are coming, but they’re still open to hearing new info anytime. So, fishers can keep roaming their forests without extra rules for now!

Fisher Not Listed — No New Protections

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service completed a 12-month finding and determined the Northern California–Southern Oregon distinct population segment (NCSO DPS) of fisher is not warranted for listing as endangered or threatened under the Endangered Species Act of 1973. That means no new federal protections or listing-related restrictions for this fisher population are being added right now, and the public may submit new information to the Service at any time.
