Summary

Good news for small fishing boats under 60 feet! Starting now, they can fish for Pacific cod in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands using hook-and-line or pot gear. This move helps make sure the full 2025 catch limit is used, supporting fishermen and the local seafood market.

Small Boats Allowed Pacific Cod

If you operate a catcher vessel less than 60 feet (18.3 meters) length overall, you can now fish for Pacific cod in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands Management Area (BSAI) using hook-and-line or pot gear. This opens directed fishing so the 2025 total allowable catch allocated to these vessels can be fully used.
