FAA Mandates Airbus Oxygen Swap to Keep Planes Safe

Published Date: 9/15/2025

Rule

Summary

If you fly or work with certain Airbus planes, this new rule means you still have to replace some faulty oxygen containers to keep everyone safe. Plus, it now covers a new plane model that just got certified, so more planes need this fix. The FAA wants these changes done quickly to avoid any safety risks and keep flights smooth.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Required replacement of faulty oxygen canisters

If you operate or maintain Airbus Model A318, A319, A320, A321, A330-200, A330-200 Freighter, A330-300, A330-800, A330-900, A340-200, A340-300, A340-500, or A340-600 series airplanes, you must replace SafeLav gaseous oxygen containers (SLGOCs) affected by a production deficiency. The AD also prohibits installing the affected SLGOCs on those airplanes.

Newly certified model added to applicability

The AD adds a newly certified airplane model to the list of airplanes covered, meaning operators of that newly certified model are now subject to the same SLGOC replacement and installation prohibition. The FAA issued the AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.
