FAA Flags Airbus Chopper Windows That Tug Off Too Easily

Published Date: 9/22/2025

Proposed Rule

Summary

If you fly an Airbus H160-B helicopter with a special window upgrade, listen up! The FAA found some window parts that can get loose too easily, which isn’t safe. They want owners to fix these windows soon and stop putting the risky windows on any helicopter with this upgrade to keep everyone safe.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Must Fix Loose Window Parts

If you operate an Airbus Helicopters Model H160-B that was modified by Supplemental Type Certificate SR00223IB, the FAA would require you to modify any affected window so it becomes a serviceable window. This follows a report that several self-locking nuts in the window jettisoning system could be loosened by hand because of a non-conformity in the cable kit.

Ban on Installing Risky Upgraded Windows

The FAA would prohibit installing an affected window on any Airbus H160-B helicopter modified with Supplemental Type Certificate SR00223IB. The ban is intended to stop further use of windows with the cable-kit non-conformity that can let self-locking nuts be loosened by hand.
