PNGTS Seeks Permission To Deviate From Safety Rules

If you live or work near the PNGTS pipeline in Cumberland, ME, Portland Natural Gas Transmission System has asked to add 2,625 feet and extend 4,678 feet of pipeline to an active special permit that lets PNGTS deviate from 49 CFR 192.611(a), (d), and 192.619(a) where a segment changed from Class 1 to Class 3. If granted, the special permit segments would total 17,208 feet (about 3.259 miles); the active permit is effective until May 22, 2033.

PHMSA Finds No Significant Environmental Impact

PHMSA reviewed the final environmental assessment and determined that expanding the proposed special permit would not result in significant impacts to the human environment, and no further environmental assessment is required under the National Environmental Policy Act. This finding applies to the requested PNGTS special permit expansion covering the segments listed in Docket No. PHMSA-2006-24058.
