MHI RJ Jets Face New FAA Inspection Orders

Published Date: 12/12/2025

Rule

Summary

The FAA is updating safety rules for certain MHI RJ Aviation ULC regional jets, including models 700 through 1000. Owners must update their maintenance plans with new, stricter checks to keep these planes safe. This change kicks in on January 16, 2026, and while it might mean a bit more work, it helps prevent safety issues down the line.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Mandatory maintenance program revisions

Operators of MHI RJ regional jets (models CL-600-2C10, CL-600-2C11, CL-600-2D15, CL-600-2D24, and CL-600-2E25) must revise their existing maintenance or inspection program to incorporate the new or more restrictive airworthiness limitations specified in Transport Canada AD CF-2024-41 (dated December 5, 2024) and MHI RJ MRM CSP B-053 Part 2, Revision 27 (dated September 15, 2023) as modified by this AD. This requirement is effective January 16, 2026, and includes initial compliance timing rules (tasks with thresholds/discard times: at the specified thresholds or within 30 days after the effective date, whichever occurs later; tasks with only intervals: before the applicable interval since original certificate issuance or within 30 days after the effective date, whichever occurs later).

Estimated compliance cost and fleet size

The FAA estimates this AD affects 600 U.S.-registered airplanes. The agency estimates revising the existing maintenance or inspection program takes an average of 90 work-hours per operator at $85 per work-hour, for an average total cost per operator of $7,650 (90 × $85).

Terminates certain prior AD obligations

Completing the actions required by this AD terminates the corresponding requirements of paragraph (h) of AD 2023-09-02 and paragraph (h) of AD 2023-24-03 for the identified AMM tasks, and it terminates all requirements of AD 2023-06-06 and AD 2025-11-11. Operators who accomplish this AD no longer must comply with those specific earlier AD requirements as described.
