Louisiana LNG Giant Seeks Eco-Feedback on Massive Energy Build

Published Date: 1/13/2026

Notice

Summary

Argent LNG wants to build new energy facilities in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, and the government is asking the public to share their thoughts on how this might affect the environment. People have until February 9, 2026, to send in comments about possible impacts and ideas to reduce harm. This feedback will help decide if the project is a good idea and how it should move forward.

Analyzed Economic Effects

5 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Project land footprint and property use

The planned terminal would be constructed on about 269.9 acres within an 885.5-acre leased property; marine facilities would impact 147.1 acres (127.4 acres within the leased site and 19.7 acres in the Belle Pass Channel). The project would include about 0.7 mile of new dual 16-inch natural gas interconnect pipelines and Argent LNG would maintain about 445 acres for permanent operations with the remaining acreage restored. Affected landowners (potential right-of-way grantors, owners whose property may be used temporarily, or owners of homes within certain distances of aboveground facilities) are included on the environmental mailing list.

New marine berths and navigation

The project would build marine facilities and two new berths capable of accommodating LNG carriers up to 260,000 cubic meters and would affect 19.7 acres in the Belle Pass Channel. FERC staff has identified marine transportation as a preliminary issue to study in the environmental review.

NEPA review will evaluate many impacts

FERC staff will prepare an environmental document (an Environmental Assessment or an Environmental Impact Statement if an application is filed) that will evaluate geology and soils; water resources and wetlands; vegetation and wildlife; threatened and endangered species; cultural resources; socioeconomics; land use; air quality and noise; and reliability and safety. Staff has already listed marine transportation, socioeconomic effects, and construction effects on water, wetlands, and marine species as issues to consider.

Public comment deadline and process

You can send written comments about the planned Argent LNG Project to FERC by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on February 9, 2026. Comments can be filed using FERC's eComment or eFiling systems or mailed referencing docket PF25-11-000; if you submitted comments before September 8, 2025 you must refile them in Docket No. PF25-11-000 to ensure they are considered.

Historic property and tribal consultation

FERC has initiated consultation under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act with the applicable State Historic Preservation Office(s) and is soliciting views from Indian tribes, government agencies, and the public on potential effects to historic properties. The environmental document will summarize findings and the status of these consultations.
