Bombardier Jets Get Trim Check: FAA Flags Faulty Stabilizer Parts

Published Date: 1/21/2026

Rule

Summary

The FAA is making a new rule for all Bombardier BD-100-1A10 airplanes because some important parts in the horizontal stabilizer trim actuators weren’t properly replaced during maintenance. Owners must check the serial numbers and replace any faulty parts to keep flying safe. This rule starts February 25, 2026, and could mean some extra costs for inspections and replacements.

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 4 costs, 0 mixed.

Required Replacement of Affected HSTAs

If the HSTA serial number is listed in Section 1.A. of Bombardier Service Bulletin 100-27-23 or 350-27-014 (both dated October 28, 2024), you must replace that HSTA at the applicable time in the compliance schedule. Affected HSTAs do not need replacement if they have a modification plate marked with Moog Service Bulletin C47100-27-07.

FAA Cost Estimates and Warranty Note

The FAA estimates this AD affects 982 U.S.-registered BD-100-1A10 airplanes. Estimated cost to do the required inspection is up to $170 per airplane (up to $166,940 on U.S. operators). The FAA estimates on-condition replacement could cost $55,365 per product, though Bombardier may cover some or all costs under warranty.

Mandatory HSTA Serial-Number Checks

If you operate a Bombardier Model BD-100-1A10, you must verify the serial number of horizontal stabilizer trim actuators (HSTA) part numbers C47100-004 or C47100-005 using the Bombardier service bulletins dated October 28, 2024. The inspection/records check must be done according to the flight-hour/cycle schedule: before accumulating 14,500 total flight hours on the HSTA or 7,500 total flight cycles, or within 24 months (if HSTA has 10,000+ hours), 36 months (if 9,700–9,999 hours), or 48 months (if <9,700 hours) after the AD effective date of February 25, 2026.

Prohibition on Installing Affected HSTAs

As of the AD effective date (February 25, 2026), no person may install an HSTA (part number C47100-004 or C47100-005) with a serial number listed in Section 1.A. of the Bombardier service bulletins unless that HSTA has a modification plate marked with Moog Service Bulletin C47100-27-07. This limits use of listed units unless they show the approved Moog marking.
